ALPENA — The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan recently approved $32,344 through the 12th annual round of Northeast Michigan Women’s Giving Circle grants. These grants are reviewed and recommended annually by a committee of 10 WGC members who serve two-year terms. WGC grants are awarded for issues important to the women of Northeast Michigan from the WGC Endowment Fund.

2019 WGC grants include:

1) Alpena County Library — $425 for the program: “Into No Man’s Land”: An evening with Holocaust survivor Irene Miller.

2) First United Methodist Church Alpena — $1,000 for the Hearts to Home project.

3) Alpena Gymnastics, Inc. — $500 for the aerial silk project.

4) Cheboygan, Otsego, Presque Isle Educational Service District — $1,200 for the Presque Isle Project Connect.

5) Thunder Bay Arts Council — $1,200 for the Michigan children’s book author Carol Trembath project.

6) Bay View Center — $900 for the undergarment request project.

7) All Saints Catholic Parish — $2,500 for the Time to Help, Period project.

8) Alpena Area Senior Citizens Council, Inc. — $700 to purchase books for the Widow’s Club project.

9) Alpena Public Schools — $2,000 for Alpena girls softball field improvements.

10) Alpena Tennis Association — $1,250 toward building youth tennis in Alpena.

11) Art in the Loft (NEMI Center for Fine Arts) — $1,500 for the R.E.A.C.H. program.

12) Boys & Girls Club of Alpena — $2,419 for the SMART Girls program.

13) District Health Dept #4 — $2,500 for the Girls on the Run program.

14) Friends of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary — $1,250 for the 2020 Sanctuary Lecture Series.

15) Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative — for the Women in STEM in Northeast Michigan program.

16) Hubbard Lake Baptist/Bible Church — $1,500 for the Sunrise Community Food Pantry–Feeding the Hungry project.

17) Inspiration Alcona, Inc. — $1,000 for the 3rd Annual Farm to Fork, Alcona Small Farm Conference.

18) Rogers City Area Schools– $2,000 for the elementary school library project.

19) Sanborn Township– $2,500 for the Jaws of Life purchase.

20) Shelter, Inc. dba Hope Shores Alliance — $2,500 for the Sustaining Safe Housing for Transition project.

21) Taking Pride in Alpena, dba South Bay — $500 for the 45th Parallel — Pettalia Memorial Park and Partridge Point Parks signage.

22) Target Alpena Development Corporation — $500 for the Leadercast Women Program.

The next opportunity for submitting grant applications is through the Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council for youth programs in Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and/or Presque Isle County. Applications are available at cfnem.org and are due by Oct. 15.
